On 24.10.2016 in the hall of Business Incubator in Kardzhali was held introductory press conference on the project “Perperikon – past for the future.” The press conference was attended by Eng. Hasan Azis – mayor of Kardzhali Municipality and representatives of local, regional and national media.
Project Manager – Eng. Katia Mitovska presented to journalists and guests objectives, activities and expected results of the project and financial support from the program BG08 “Cultural heritage and contemporary arts” in Financial Mechanism of the European Economic Area.
Daniela Kodzhamanova – Director of RIM-Kardzhali, which is a partner in the project, presented in details the planned activities related to the restoration and conservation of the archaeological complex “Perperikon”.
“This project is aimed at restoration and socialization of the so-called South-West sector of the Acropolis. The focus is restoration of the medieval tower. The idea is that by modern means of restoring it to be completed in full volume. It is preserved in half at the moment. After the restoration work the shell of the tower will be closed and the visitors could gain an idea of fortification facility at full volume. Conservation and restoration of most western part of the southern wall of a medieval bastion in its path will be carried out. The current project is a continuation of what was started with the project “Perperikon – The House of gods and men.” We facilitate access for tourists and protect open archaeological structures, that is why we would limit the indiscriminate walking in ancient and medieval walls. A visitor from high can perceive volumes of archaeological structures,” said Daniela Kodzhamanova.
Mayor Eng. Hasan Azis stressed that the municipality of Kardzhali is making long-term efforts for restoration and socialization of Perperikon and financial support from the program BG08 “Cultural heritage and contemporary arts” in Financial Mechanism of the European Economic Area allows to extend the areas of complex that are protected from the influence of climatic and anthropogenic factors.
